The other day I was brainstorming all the different business opportunities I could think of and the cleaning business came to mind. At first I thought that I hate cleaning my own house and I just didn't think that it would make a very good income. But I started thinking about it more and remembered back to a time when I hired a cleaning service.
Our 2nd child was 2 months old when we bought a house and the people who moved out left the new house in chaos. I was so overwhelmed by the mess and having to deal with a 2 month old baby and an almost 3 year old child. Not only that, I still was packing up our other house and trying to get it sparkling clean as it was a rental and we needed our deposit back. I was really at my wits end when we walked into the house after closing, my dad was there and could just see it in my face. One of the best gifts I ever received was when he said "your mom and I want to hire a cleaning service to come do the cleaning before you move in." It was wonderful.
But, that cleaning service for a move in clean (not including the carpets) was almost $500 for our 1900 square foot home!! 2 people came and cleaned it and it took them about 3-4 hours to do it. Granted this was a bigger cleaning service so I'm sure that the girls who were cleaning it did not get paid that much but if you were running your own cleaning business and did the cleaning yourself, you would get all the profit! Or if you don't like to clean, you could pay others a fair wage and still make a decent profit.
I figure if I ever started a cleaning business, I would specialize in move-in or move-out cleanings and new construction. No furniture in the way! But there could be a big mess to clean up. Other people in this business prefer the personal touch of working directly with families and so clean houses on a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly basis. Still others people do office cleaning where you go in after offices are closed and clean them. This would be great for those of you who have husband's who work in the daytime but are home in the evenings to watch the kids.
Granted the cleaning business is not exactly a "work at home business" but it still has the opportunity to own your own business and set your own schedule for the most part.
